We had quite an awesome surprise last Sunday morning. We checked our butterfly pupas and they were all still the same for the past seven days. So we left for church as usual. When we got home we looked again and three pupas had hatched into beautiful butterflies!!! How Awesome! Here is Christen checking them out for the first time. Notice the other pupas still waiting to hatch.
Time to get them some lunch as well. We soaked a paper towel in sugar water with a slice of orange on the side. Notice how hungry they are. Look closely and you can see them drink the sweet nectar with their probiscus (sort of like a straw).

The next day we actually got to witness two more butterflies hatch! It was amazing to see God wonderful plan in action. Later on I also let Christen carefully let the butterflies crawl on her hand. What fun.
We also decided to share this miracle with the preschool children at our church and share what we learned. They were so excited to see the butterflies up close and personnal. After about six days, we felt it was time to set them free where they would be happy and continue to multiply and give us more butterflies. We chose to release them today near the entrance to our subdivision where there are lots of flowers for them. Most of them flew away quickly, but one allowed us to watch him find his first flower. Can you see it?
There it is right in the middle of the picture, just above the red flowers.

Only our Creator can design the butterfly to do what is does at just the right time. Watching this process of the caterpillar changing into a butterfly reminds me also of our salvation. II Cor. 5:17 says "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." Thank you Lord for all your perfect creations. Thank you for allowing us to witness all your awesome creations.
